Davenport Municipal Airport, Runway 5/23 Shift, Extension, & Reconstruction

Century West assisted the Davenport Municipal Airport to complete a runway shift, rehabilitation, and taxiway project, including runway reconstruction, lengthening, and the addition of turnarounds and taxiways. Century West also managed the 2009 Airport Master Plan and a later Environmental Assessment, securing FAA approval in 2017. The project benefited from 100% FAA funding, saving the City out-of-pocket expenses. A connector taxilane was also constructed with FAA funding in 2021. The project, completed in Summer 2021, upgraded the runway to FAA standards, ensuring a 20-year lifespan and boosting air ambulance traffic and tenant interest. Century West guided the City through the 12-year process, ensuring a successful outcome with minimal costs. In 2022, the project was awarded the Washington Airport Managers Association (WAMA) Project of the Year Award.

Hillsboro Airport, Runway 13R/31L Reconstruction

Century West completed the final design and is providing construction support services for developing a fish-passable box culvert as part of the larger runway safety area improvements project at Hillsboro Municipal Airport, owned by the Port of Portland. This culvert was designed to convey runoff from the Glencoe swale across a runway safety area, adhering to strict grading standards. The design featured a 508-foot-long box culvert, complete with headwalls and streambed materials that meet the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife requirements. Additionally, the project involved extensive environmental permitting and review processes conducted by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Century West's team has been responsible for all hydraulic modeling and improvements to the perimeter’s stormwater quantity and quality. Currently, the project is in the process of wrapping up construction.

Oregon Department of Aviation, Pavement Maintenance Program

Century West administers the Oregon Department of Aviation’s Pavement Maintenance Program, performing programming, inspection, design, bidding, and construction management services for more than a dozen Oregon public-use airports annually. Programmed projects address pavement maintenance needs in a rigorous, cost-effective manner using pavement maintenance methods such as crack sealing, patching, and surface sealing. Century West’s project manager, James Kirby, uses his inspection, design, and project management experience to guide the program through all project phases. In addition to James, many Century West staff have participated in this unique program's design and construction management phases with cumulative experience in most of the public-use airports in the state.

Port of Bremerton, South Hangar Project

The Port of Bremerton's AMP, focusing on south hangar improvements, was initially planned for small aircraft facilities with two taxilanes per FAA approval. By 2018, a shift towards larger corporate hangars emerged, leading to a review by Century West to meet these demands and allow for future expansion. This involved stakeholder collaboration, alternative layouts, and regulatory compliance. The phased development saw the completion of three executive hangars in Phase 1 by 2020, with Phase 2 adapting to a mix of corporate and small aircraft needs. Key items were infrastructure upgrades and environmental compliance, continuing the 2014 AMP's vision for growth and adaptability at Bremerton Airport's south hangar area.

Florence Municipal Airport, Automated Weather Observing System Reconstruction

Century West has been serving the Florence Municipal Airport since the 1980s. The airport's AWOS III equipment had reached the end of its useful life and needed to be replaced. Century West worked with the airport and FAA to program an AWOS replacement project in 2021 to upgrade to an AWOS III 3P/T system. Coordinating with the airport and FAA, design work finished in Spring 2021, followed by bid openings in early June. Despite COVID-19 causing delays in procurement, the design allowed the existing system to operate until the new equipment was installed. This strategic approach ensured uninterrupted service, culminating in the efficient installation of the new AWOS in less than a week by December 2021.
