Aviation Planning

Century West’s team of airport planners and engineers has decades of experience assisting airports with creating long-range plans that meet their vision and goals, while also meeting all FAA requirements. We consider the unique operations and site conditions for each airport and work with our clients to develop realistic facility plans aligned with their project priorities and funding opportunities. The project cost estimates developed for the capital improvement program (CIP) are realistic and result in plans that are ready to implement on day 1.  Our team of airport planners and engineers will work with you through each step of implementation to realize the facility goals and opportunities.

Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field, Airport Layout Plan Update

Century West updated the ALP and AMP report for the Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field. The airport's priority for the project was detailed hangar alternatives with immediate and long-term development layouts. The existing AMP was completed in 2015; however, the baseline data for the report was from 2010. In 2017, the FAA requested that the airport conduct an AGIS survey to be included in the updated ALP. In addition, the FAA wanted an evaluation of the non-standard conditions and geometry, particularly Runway 22, which is a known hot spot. The airport requested an updated evaluation of the crosswind runway, Runway 4/22. The evaluation included a wind analysis and critical aircraft review. The design efforts focused on evaluating options for reconstructing and rehabilitating the existing pavement, optimizing the apron layout for aircraft storage and operational flow, and collaborating with airport operations for safety and development planning. Additionally, a thorough storm drainage analysis was conducted to meet County permitting requirements.

Washington State Department of Transportation Aviation Airport Layout Plans

WSDOT Aviation selected Century West for Phase 2 of the ALPs project at several Washington airports, including Methow Valley State Airport, Packwood Airport, Chelan Municipal Airport, Sunnyside Municipal Airport, Vashon Municipal Airport, Davenport Airport, and Ione Municipal Airport. Starting in 2005 and finishing by 2009, these projects aimed to update the outdated AMPs and ALPs, incorporating runway extensions, taxiway construction, fueling stations, hangar development, and more, based on FAA standards. The team also prepared financial evaluations covering development costs, project funding eligibility, and local matching funds' availability.

Arlington Municipal Airport, Infrastructure Site Development Plan

Century West developed this plan that covered 11 different sites and ~300 acres of Arlington Municipal Airport property. Future demands and development opportunities are anticipated to be different than those identified on the 2012 ALP. The engineering-focused study informed the Airport on existing conditions, site access points and development layout parameters, needed infrastructure (internal and external), zoning and/or land-use changes, environmental criteria and mitigations, and other implementation considerations. It outlines detailed path forward with identified implementation costs, phasing and schedule considerations, implementation approach options, and next step action items to realize the Airport’s corporate, manufacturing, and other development opportunities.

Brookings Airport, Airport Master Plan

In collaboration with the FAA, the City of Brookings identified the need for a new AMP for the Brookings Airport. The City partnered with Century West to develop the new AMP. The AMP was designed to align with the community's vision for the airport and provide a guiding document for its future development and surroundings. Century West collaborated closely with the City and community to address various issues and opportunities for airfield facilities. These include a potential ADG code change from ADG I to ADG II, runway extension evaluation, incompatible land uses in the runway protection zone, aircraft cargo operations area, hangar development needs, instrument approach procedures development, and the expansion of public utilities to airport facilities.

Bend Municipal Airport, Airport Master Plan Update

Century West, the long-standing planning and engineering firm of record for the Bend Municipal Airport, worked with the City of Bend on the 2022 AMP update. The update was needed due to Bend and Deschutes County's significant population and local aircraft growth. Although previous AMP recommendations had been largely implemented, updates were necessary to reflect local changes, new FAA standards, and regional aviation trends. The updated plan focuses on developments such as a new air traffic control tower, a second runway, long-term land use, extending the primary runway, enhancing west side terminal access, and integrating with broader regional transportation planning strategies.
