Century West is pleased to announce the promotion of Kurt Addicott, PE, and Rawley Voorhies, PE, to the role of Vice President! At the beginning of this year, both Kurt and Rawley handed their Office Supervisor positions to staff they have been mentoring for years to allow them to focus on their roles as our firm-wide Aviation and Municipal Business Development Managers, respectively. They will continue in these positions in addition to providing strategic input on our company’s growth and development through their additional roles as corporate officers. Kurt was also elected to serve on Century West’s Board of Directors!
Kurt Addicott joined Century West in 2016 after reaching a growth ceiling at his previous employer for expanding their aviation practice. Century West President Joe Roshak, PE, and Vice President Matt Rogers, PE, had long been emphasizing to Kurt that our company had the vision and passion to support his goals for strategic growth. Once he made the jump to Century West—bringing with him a talented and experienced team of aviation professionals made up of Melanie Johansen, PE, and Don Barclay, PE—the sky was the limit. Over the past eight years, Kurt and his team have added more than a dozen airports to Century West’s client roster including the Port of Port Angeles, the Port of Shelton, Spokane Airport’s Board, Renton Municipal Airport, Snohomish County’s Paine Field, Southwest Washington Regional Airport, and many more.
“I have always had a passion for strategic thinking and development,” Kurt said. “Growing the business. Helping to develop and implement strategy. I appreciate Century West’s leadership for acknowledging that passion and giving me a role that gives me a bigger voice in our future.”
Rawley Voorhies came to Century West through a different path. He and Century West Executive Vice President Matt MacRostie, PE were both hired by the same private development consulting company immediately out of college. “Great people and provided a ton of experience, but it was a grind,” Rawley said. “A lot of hours, low budgets, and working on projects that didn’t always feel fulfilling.” After riding out the Great Recession, Rawley moved to a large company with the specific goal of working on public works projects. He was excited about the people he collaborated with and much of the culture, but the projects were large and monotonous, and Rawley did not feel the opportunity to grow in his project roles or the company.
After reconnecting with Matt MacRostie, Rawley joined our Portland office in 2014 as a Project Engineer. Here he found an entrepreneurial culture and the opportunity to work on projects of a more manageable size that have a significant impact on public spaces. The job, both then and now, provides a lot of variety and challenge, which keeps the work exciting.
When asked what he was most proud of during his time at Century West, Rawley responded, “I’m proud of the team I’ve helped grow in the Oregon municipal market. When I started, the Portland office had two people working on municipal projects. Through strategic business development efforts including getting involved in local chapters of the American Public Works Association and American Water Works Association, I was able to spread the word about what Century West is capable of.”
Both Kurt and Rawley noted that Century West’s commitment to responsiveness and quality of work are elements of our culture that drew them to work here and keep them motivated to continue their careers with the company. In his new role, Kurt is most excited to continue to build Century West’s aviation market share at both general aviation and Part 139 commercial service airports in the Pacific Northwest. “I see this as the next step in pursuing my passion,” Kurt said. “I look forward to being plugged into more high-level strategic discussions.” Rawley hopes to use his position to develop and reward staff at all levels who are making positive contributions to the company. “I started with Century West as a project engineer,” Rawley said. “I know how much time and care goes into project work and want to make sure that is acknowledged at all levels even more than it already is.”
